Law Week at UNB
UNB Law is hosting its annual Law Week, February 11-15, 2008. With events ranging from special guest speakers to competitive moots, Law Week will have something for all law enthusiasts.
The following is a program of events (unless otherwise noted, all events will take place in Room 2, Ludlow Hall, UNBF):
Tuesday, February 12th, 5:00 p.m.
Presentation by Patrick Case, Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission and Director of the University of Guelph’s Human Rights and Equity Office. Mr. Case’s presentation is entitled: “Human Rights Litigation in Canada: Lessons and Choices”
Wednesday, February 13th, 7:00 p.m.
Harrison Shield Moot Competition
Third year students John MacLean and Matthew Rowe (Appellants) and John Whelan and Jonathan Hoyles (Respondents) will compete in this year's Harrison Shield Moot, UNB Law's only in-house upper year moot competition.
Thursday, February 14th, 5:30 p.m.
Ivan C. Rand Memorial Lecture
This year’s guest speaker is Professor Lorne Sossin of the University of Toronto. Professor Sossin’s lecture is entitled: “Judicial Appointment and Democratic Aspirations”. Reception to follow in the Student Lounge
Friday, February 15th, 9:00 a.m.
Special Presentation by the Honourable Mr. Justice Marshall Rothstein of the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Justice Rothstein will be speaking on judicial selection and the Supreme Court of Canada. Reception to follow in Student Lounge.

Panel Discussion
To be held in conjunction with this year's Rand Lecture, the title of the panel is “Judging Appointments: Political Plurality and Judicial Selection in Canada”
Panelists are:
- Ian Greene, York University, Political Science Department
- Benjamin Alarie, University of Toronto, Faculty of Law
- Rory Leishman, Journalist and Author
- Neil McKelvey, O.C., Q.C.C.D., Stewart McKelvey, Saint John
- Lorne Sossin, University of Toronto, Faculty of Law
Professor Carissima Mathen will moderate the panel. Professor Mathen is from the University of New Brunswick, Faculty of Law.
Friday, February 15th, 2:15 p.m.
Citation Race
The much anticipated annual UNB Law Citation Race will take place in the Colin B. Mackay Reading Room in the G.V. La Forest Law Library. Student and faculty teams race against each other to complete the scavenger hunt of law citations.
