UNB Law Student Named New Brunswick Entrepreneur Competition Champion
Jennifer Nolan, a second year law student at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, has been named the New Brunswick Student Entrepreneur Competition Champion by Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) and CIBC Small Business.
Since September 2005, Ms. Nolan has owned and operated Jaycien Consultants, a consulting firm focused on marketing for small business. Jaycien Consultants began when Ms. Nolan accepted a consulting position with the New Brunswick Real Estate Association and has since been providing marketing solutions to a number of other organizations.
Operating Jaycien Consultants has provided Ms. Nolan with invaluable business experience, professional development and presentation skills. She has had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients, offering them support in preparing business plans, presentations and marketing materials.
Ms. Nolan says that she is excited to represent New Brunswick in the 2007 Student Entrepreneur Competition.
“Running a company, while pursing full-time studies is an immensely challenging endeavourâ€, she said. “I am grateful for the recognition that ACE, in partnership with CIBC, provide, and I am honoured to be New Brunswick’s 2007 Student Entrepreneur Competition Champion.â€
The regional round of the Student Entrepreneur Competition will take place at the 2007 ACE Regional Exposition in Halifax on March 9. Provincial champions will each present their business to a live panel of business professionals who will decide the six regional champions, two from each region. Each champion will receive $1,000 and move on to the final round of competition, taking place at the 2007 ACE National Exposition in Toronto on May 9. The national champion will be named the 2007 Student Entrepreneur of the Year, receive $10,000 and represent Canada at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, the international level of competition.
"Each year the caliber of student entrepreneurs who apply for our competition exceeds our expectations", said Amy Harder, president of ACE. "We are truly inspired by the determination and dedication of these future business leaders." In celebration of ACE’s 20th anniversary, an exclusive portal has been set up to provide timely information on events and activities taking place in 2007 and to provide a forum for profiling 20 stories of inspiration in the 20th year. Profiles can be viewed at www.ace20.ca.
