Myron L. Gochnauer

Myron Gochnauer - BA (Rochester) 1967, MA (Western) 1969, Ph.D. (Western) 1973, LLB (Toronto) 1979, LLM (Osgoode Hall) 1980. Professor Gochnauer joined the Faculty of Law in 1980. He has taught in the areas of torts, evidence, contracts, jurisprudence, feminist legal theory, and what is usually called "animal rights".
Due to retire at the end of the 2009-2010 academic year, he describes his research activities like this: "Having vainly attempted to complete a book grandly titled Reason, Power & Wisdom in Social Organization, I must admit that research has turned out to be more a form of life than a way of creating socially valuable knowledge. For many years my research interests have included: the asymmetry of good and evil; the role of compassion and kindness in rational society; the welfare of non-human animals; and the role of law in both fostering and reducing human cruelty and willful indifference to the suffering of non-humans. I expect these interests to continue into the foreseeable future, and still hope to give my work appropriate written expression."
