Catherine Cotter
BA (Hons)(UNBSJ), LLB (UNB), MLIS (Western), of the Bar of Manitoba. Ms. Cotter joined the Gerard V. La Forest Library in 2008 as a Reference/Instruction Librarian.
Prior to joining UNB, Ms. Cotter was a Reference Librarian at the Paul Martin Law Library at the University of Windsor; she also practiced law in Manitoba for a number of years before obtaining her Masters degree in Library and Information Science.
Ms. Cotter is responsible for reference and instruction services for law library patrons and teaching the legal research component of the first year Fundamentals of Advocacy course. Ms. Cotter has authored several articles and co-authored a legal dictionary.
She is the co-author of The Practical Guide to Canadian Legal Research, 3rd ed, Carswell 2010; this text is used by legal research instructors and students across Canada. She is also co-author of a forthcoming book on librarian burnout. Ms. Cotter is an active member of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries.
