Student profile and placement
Experience is an asset. This is as true in the legal field as it is in any other, which is why so many students have found a placement with Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) to be such a valuable part of their law school experience. By embarking on the noble pro bono tradition of the legal profession, you will be doing valuable work in social justice while learning and practicing skills to complement your education.
Some of the law-related areas you may be exposed to include:
- Legal research and preparation of legal memoranda
- Public legal education
- Case preparation
- Drafting manuals and policy papers
- Lobbying and advocacy
- Providing assistance to counsel in legal proceedings or administrative hearings
If you are interested in participating in a placement for the 2013-2014 year, you must provide the PBSC Coordinator with:
- a copy of your current resume
- a completed student profile
- a completed, signed student agreement
Please forward a copy of your resume (including cover letter), student profile and agreement form to the PBSC coordinator by August 15, 2013. Documents may be submitted by fax or email.

"I volunteered with PBSC my first year at UNB. I had no idea what to expect, but ended up being so glad that I decided to give it a shot! I worked for the Public Legal Information and Education Service of New Brunswick (PLEIS NB), and the experiences I had with PLEIS really helped me in first year. My work there brought me into contact with federal and provincial statutes and policies and with the public via legal information workshops. It pushed me to strengthen my time management and organization skills, and gave me a taste of the legal field outside of the classroom."
Sabrina Del Ben, Class of 2015
"Participating in PBSC has played an integral role in shaping my first year law experience. The placement organization provided my partner and me with substantive legal work to complete, including composing memos and facta. The experience I have acquired working in the placement through PBSC gave me the opportunity to learn and develop effective legal research skills, including how to draft concise, cogent legal documents. Further, the practical experience that I obtained gave me a taste of what working as a lawyer is like, and I developed an interest in labour and employment law. Lawyers and law students are in a position to provide an important service to the public. There is a growing need for social justice, and my placement with PBSC instilled this obligation within me. I hope to carry these values with me for the duration of my time as a law student and throughout my legal career."
Anna Stoll, Class of 2015
