The University of New Brunswick offers students the chance engage in special learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom experience.
UNB Law Journal
- The UNB Law Journal is an annual publication devoted to the current legal issues. The Law Journal is owned and edited by students who may receive academic credit for their work on the Law Journal depending on their role in its editing.
Law Reform Internship
- The Law Reform Internship provides one student per term an opportunity to gain an understanding of law reform and the legislative process by working with the Office of the Attorney General of New Brunswick. Students will research identified legal issues and formulate legislative recommendations.Court of Appeal Internship provides up to five students with an opportunity to develop an understanding of appellate advocacy and judicial decision-making by working with members of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. Students will view the hearings of selected appeals, discuss the arguments with the judges, and assist the judges with research relevant to the preparation of their decisions.
Depending on faculty availability and student interest, we offer non-traditional seminar courses on specialized legal topics. These have included:
Wrongful Convictions Seminar
- Students will familiarize themselves with the general issue of wrongful convictions focusing on systemic causes and examples from well-known cases like Marshall, Morin and Parsons.
- They will also meet with the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted counsel to continue work on a suspected case of wrongful conviction from New Brunswick. This work will involve students in file review, archival search, drafting of documents and learning about the work of counsel in wrongful conviction cases.
Corporate Transactions Seminar
- This practice oriented business law seminar is designed for students interested in corporate, securities and tax law and business transactions. The course is intended to provide students with a complete understanding of the various legal issues involved in advising a business through various stages of development from start-up to becoming publicly traded.
