Have a passion for physical activity, recreation, sport or health and wellness?

Our Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies (BRSS) program is the only one of its kind in Canada, offering both recreation and sport science in one comprehensive degree. You can also choose from a variety of specialization and niche options.

This four-year program balances theory and hands-on practice. You will gain critical thinking and real-world experience to move people toward healthier lives. The BRSS program excels at personalized learning and career preparation. We offer innovative courses, small class sizes and world-class professors you will know on a first-name basis.

Focus your studies with one of our innovative program streams: management, education or wellness.

Gain a solid understanding of fundamental management functions and prepare to work in a management position in amateur sport, professional sport, municipal recreation, commercial recreation or government.

The management option offers a full-term professional internship in a management context with an organization best suited to your career goals. You will become part of a professional team, learning and contributing as you go.

Students have recently gained professional experience at internships with:

  • National and provincial recreation and sport organizations
  • Commonwealth and Canada Games
  • Quebec Major Junior Hockey leagues teams
  • Hockey Alberta

If you are interested in applying to a Bachelor of Education program after your undergraduate degree, this option is ideal. You will earn a teachable in physical education and the combination of a BRSS and education degree gives you the flexibility to teach in the public school system (K-12) or deliver physical literacy in active settings.

The education option offers experiential learning opportunities through valuable practicum experiences which will take you outside the classroom into the workplace or community.

If you are interested in the fast growing field of health promotion, wellness can be a rewarding option. You will learn to create and promote wellness programs that improve health and help control costs. Gain the skills to work in schools, government, non-profit organizations and private companies.

The wellness option offers professional internship opportunities with organizations best suited to your career goals. You will become part of a professional team, learning and contributing as you go.
