Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies
The Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies (BRSS) degree program prepares students to create, manage, and execute high-quality programs that will contribute to healthy communities and healthy lives.
We offer four concentrations, so you can build your program around your interests and your career goals. Each concentration will provide you critical thinking, problem solving, research, and communication skills to become a leader in your chosen field.
Align your program to your career goals
In addition to the concentrations we offer, our program allows you to explore your interests in depth, giving you an advantage in the workplace or graduate school.
- Honours Program: You will work with one of our faculty in their area of research, or conduct a research project of your own.
- Directed Studies: Undertake an independent research project in an advanced area of study you wish pursue.
- Visit the Undergraduate Calendar for a complete list of courses, course descriptions and degree requirements.
Gain valuable work experience
You will have an opportunity to make a difference in local communities while learning new skills and concepts. You can complete a four-month internship, available across Canada, with organizations such as the YMCA, the American Hockey League and Outward Bound.
Our practicum courses take you out of the classroom and into the work place, where you can ‘try on’ your career. We will work with you to find a placement that enhances your career options.
- Contact our Experiential Education Coordinator for more information.

There is a high demand for trained professionals and managers who understand the role and value of sport, recreation and active living.
