![]()
The Take H.E.A.R.T. Program is a 12-week introductory level program that provides moderate intensity physical activity (aerobic training including brisk walking and strength conditioning including calisthenic exercises such as squats and push ups) and healthy eating instruction in a group setting three days per week. The primary goal is to educate adults in adopting new lifestyle behaviours that will help reduce their risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and cancers related to physical inactivity. Past participants have seen improvements in their health and daily functioning.
The Take H.E.A.R.T. Program is unique in that the content is delivered by a certified professional staff of registered dietitians, certified exercise physiologists and certified personal trainers accredited by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. The Take H.E.A.R.T. program is not just another exercise program or diet.
Sessions are at The Richard J. CURRIE CENTER and run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays *New Program TBA*. Program details and registration procedures.
Space is limited and participants must complete a pre-program assessment session with our certified exercise physiologist before registration can be finalized. The Take H.E.A.R.T. Program was founded by Dr. Miller MacSween and is offered in partnership between the Network for Healthy Living, UNB Fredericton's Faculty of Kinesiology, Horizon Health Network, and the City of Fredericton, and is supported by the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport and the Greater Fredericton Region’s in motion initiative. In motion is an evidence-based health promotion strategy which uses physical activity and healthy eating as means to improving the health of New Brunswick communities.
