REGISTER FOR COURSES

The first date that you can register for courses is March 18, 2013. Courses fill quickly, so try to register early to avoid disappointment. Please follow your own student record sheet. There are changes for incoming students (Sept. 2013) that do not affect you. 

IMPORTANT NOTICES

Mar. 1, 2013: Changes to Course Pre-requisites, Course Numbers, Course Titles:

KIN 2093 - Title has changed from "Introduction to Philosophy of Sport, Exercise and Recreation" to "Introduction to Philosophy of Kinesiology"
KIN 3001 - Introduction to Research Methods in Kinesiology, prerequisite Stat 2263, 2264 or equivalent.
KIN 3252 - Functional Human Anatomy, prerequisites have changed from BIOL 1782 and BIOL 2721 to BIOL 1711 and BIOL 2812 (Human Anatomy I & II) 
KIN 5072 - Advanced Motor Control and Learning, prerequisite Stat 2263, 2264 or equivalent. 
  RSS 2061 - Recreation and Sport Delivery Systems, course number has changed to 1061. Title and description remain the same. Credit cannot be received for both RSS 2061 and RSS 1061.   This course will be offered in winter term 2014.
  As of Feb 2012:
  KIN 2062 - Introductory Biomechanics now requires MATH 1003 or 1503 as a prerequisite (plus BIOL 1711), i.e. take MATH before taking KIN 2062. BRSS - Education students are advised to complete MATH 1503 in their 1st year.
KIN 3081 - Title has changed from "Introduction to Exercise Physiology" to "The Physiological Basis for Physical Activity". No need to repeat this required course, if you achieved a C or higher, for BScKin and BRSS (Education and Wellness).
  KIN 3093 - Title has changed from "Ethics of Sport, Recreation and Exercise" to "Ethics and Kinesiology". Description remains the same.
RSS 2011 - Title has changed from "Introduction to Management of Sport and Recreation Organizations" to "Management of Sport and Recreation Organizations". RSS 1213, Leisure, Recreation and Sport Concepts, is now a pre-requisite to this course.
  RSS 2042 - History of Sport and Recreation, course number has changed to 1042. Title and description remain the same. Credit cannot be received for both RSS 2042 and RSS 1042.
RSS 2213 - Leisure, Recreation and Sport Concepts, course number has changed to 1213. Title and description remain the same. Credit cannot be received for both RSS 2213 and RSS 1213.

 
BRSS STUDENTS ONLY:

Mar. 1, 2013: First-year BRSS students MUST choose their concentration by completing the steps on the BRSS Degree Selection Form before March 15, 2013.

Mar. 1, 2013: Graduating students in BRSS with Minor, Education Preparation or Management, may choose RSS 4063 - Stategies for Health Promotion in place of RSS 4083 - Health and Wellness II.

Mar. 1, 2013: BIOL 1782: BRSS students take BIOL 1782 - Human Physiology (1B) at 8:30 TTH in winter term. 11:30 section (2B) is for BScKin students only.


Mar. 1, 2013: RSS 2011: Management of Sport and Recreation Organizations, is a pre-requisite for upper year courses such as RSS 2032, RSS 3072, etc. Therefore RSS 2011 should be taken in fall term, year 2.

Mar. 1, 2013: KIN 2051: BRSS students take KIN 2051 - Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries in afternoon sections 3B or 4B. Why? Morning lab sections conflict with RSS 2032.

Sept. 1, 2012: BRSS Management students: Please be advised that the following Business Administration courses changed numbers. The course title and description remain the same. ADM 2313 Principles of Marketing is now ADM 1313; ADM 2213 Financial Accounting is now ADM 1213. Students cannot receive credit for both ADM 2313 and 1313 or ADM 2213 and 1213.

Feb. 1, 2011: For students who plan to take RSS 4081, you must complete prerequisite ADM 1313 first. You will not be permitted to take ADM 1313 and RSS 4081 at the same time.

BSCKIN STUDENTS ONLY:

Mar. 1, 2013: KIN 2093 will not be offered in 2013/2014. BScKin students choose one of RSS 2081 or RSS 1042.

Mar. 1, 2013: BScKin students take BIOL 1782 - Human Physiology (2B) at 11:30 on TTH in winter term. 8:30 section (1B) is for BRSS students only.

Mar. 1, 2013: BScKin students take KIN 2051 - Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries in morning, sections 1B or 2B only.

Mar. 1, 2013: KIN 2160 - Laboratory Methods in Kinesiology, lab sections, cancelled due to weather, will be held on Thursdays, 7:00 - 10:00pm in winter term. Therefore, keep this time available.

Mar. 1, 2013: KIN 3252 -If Functional Human Anatomy is listed as a fall term required course in your second year on your student record sheet, we recommend you leave KIN 3252 until you have taken both Human Anatomy I and Human Anatomy II. Therefore in fall 2013, we recommend that you pick up Stats 2263, 2264 or equivalent in place of KIN 3252. 

Feb. 1, 2011: For students interested in obtaining a professional certification with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a certified Personal Trainer, you should consider completing KIN 3081 in winter 2nd year, KIN 4281 in the fall and KIN 4282 in winter of 3rd year. As a CPT in 4th year you would then be eligible to complete a practicum, which can be used to prepare for the second certification level, the Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP).

CSEP certifications are nationally recognized as an industry standard. As a CPT you have a scope of practice and professional liability insurance to practice your profession. For more information, visit www.csep.ca.

Registration: Step by Step 

Step 1: Pick up your personal up-to-date student record sheet from the KIN Office C201, LB Gym, or request a copy via email from Leslie Harquail.
Step 2: Print a copy of the blank timetable to use as your worksheet.
Step 3: Print a copy of Faculty Policies. Why? There are 15 policies that affect your course planning. Example - the number of 3000/4000 level KIN/RSS courses you must have. It is your responsibility to review the document and make your course selections based on Faculty Policy.
Step 4: Consult your student record sheet (from Step 1) to determine which required courses you need.
If you need help making course selections, or determining if you have the prerequisites you need, and are meeting your degree requirements, please contact your academic advisor, Jaime Campbell (Coordinator Student Support Services).
Step 5: Access the university timetable and start penciling in your courses on your blank timetable. You may also wish to download the Faculty Timetable which lists courses by time and day.
Step 6: Register online through your e-Services account (under the Academic Tab) or at http://www.unb.ca/registration/ Your PIN will be in effect until you graduate. Print your timetable for future reference. If you have difficulties using the online registration system, contact the Help Desk at IT Services, 453-5199.
