Research and development

Research and development is one of our primary services and under the constructive guidance of our advisory board, the Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Management and the University of New Brunswick we have established the following research programs:

  • Timber structural engineering
  • Bio-resources and products
  • Bio-energy
  • Wood adhesives and composites
  • Wood deterioration
  • Wood modification

Product testing

We specialize in wood product testing and are accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as a test laboratory for specific tests on wood products. We are recognized by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre and the International Council for Building Research Studies and Documentation. We are also approved for evaluation of kilns under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Heat Treatment Program for wood products.

We are also capable of testing bio-fuels and bio-fuel appliances through our subsidiary the Canadian Bio-Energy Centre (CBEC).

Technology transfer

We provide an Innovation Assistance Service (technology transfer) to incorporated small to medium size Canadian companies on matters relating to wood products. Through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program's (NRC-IRAP) network member agreement, this service gives access to our staff and associates on specific industrial research projects.
