The Centre

The WSTC was established in 1988 with start-up fund from federal (ACOA) and provincial (New Brunswick) government.

b2The WSTC is administered by a management team comprised of a Director, a Manager and a Quality Manager, and directed by its Advisory Board that consists of a variety of industries and of the UNB VP Research and the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management.

WSTC has grown from a small regional research centre to one which is now nationally and internationally recognized, particularly for its strength in wood engineering.

WSTC is now one of the most successful and active research centres at UNB.

Recently, WSTC has been working closely with the university to establish the Canadian BioEnergy Centre through its active involvement in development and testing of solid biofuels.

WSTC is the only university-based testing laboratory in Canada specializing in wood product testing, which is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.

WSTC is recognized by the Canadian Construction Material Centre and the International Council of Building Research Studies and Documentation.

The Centre is also an approved agency for evaluation of kilns under Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Program for wood products and is a member of Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) since 2008.
