You can prepare for an active role in protecting and managing our natural environment when you choose our Bachelor of Science in Environment and Natural Resources (BScENR) degree.

This four-year program emphasizes learning through practical experience. You'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to join the next generation of environmental and natural resource managers, scientists, and advocates. You'll develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills as well as strong communication skills.

A holistic approach

Today's global challenges require professionals who can take a systems approach to understanding resource management problems.

Build a strong base in science and then learn to solve environmental and natural resource problems from a holistic, systems perspective, incorporating knowledge of land, water, air, plants, animals, and people. Learn to characterize, analyze, and predict change. Synthesize information into comprehensive solutions for stewardship of natural resources.

Gain essential hands-on experience in the field of your choice during outdoor laboratories and field trips.

This degree opens the door to a wide variety of career choices in Canada and around the world from biologist to urban planner to outdoor recreation director. Check out career choices at ECO (Environmental Careers Organization).

Design what you learn

The first year of the BScENR program begins with an to the curriculum and our systems approach to learning during a fall field camp. You'll meet your classmates and professors in an informal setting. You will typically take five courses per term, starting with introductory courses in biology, math, resource management issues, chemistry, and geology.

Tailor your education to suit your interests by choosing from three areas of specialization or a combination of the three: Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Management, or Water Resources Management. You can earn a Wildlife Management Certification or a minor in Marine Biology through the Canadian Rivers Institute.

An articulation agreement with NBCC Miramichi and the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management has been developed this year. Students will receive credits for courses with grades above 70% taken at NBCC towards our new BScENR degree.
