Welcome to the New Brunswick Climate Change Research Collaborative (NBCCRC) at the University of New Brunswick. Our aim is to increase the capacity of New Brunswick communities to effectively respond to climatic change over the short and long term.

Irrespective of international efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we can expect profound changes to our local environment given the climatic pathway our planetary system is currently following. Communities in New Brunswick will face severe challenges that will affect many social, economic, and environmental values including: agriculture, water, forestry, health care, infrastructure, ecosystem services, tourism, energy, fisheries, emergency services, and transportation.

To address these challenges NBCCRC encourages the production of scientific knowledge that is locally applicable, and seeks to deliver this knowledge in a manner that is accessible to stakeholders and decision-makers. This task requires integrating local understanding of social, economic and environmental conditions, with expertise in projecting climatic changes and associated impacts, so as to inform local decision-making. Effectively this becomes a challenge of brokering the relationship between the scientific community and its partners.

In the coming months we will be posting content of direct interest to those concerned with the application of science to the environmental issue of climatic change in New Brunswick.
