This years International Forestry Studies course went to Hawaii. The focus of this years course was on dry tropical forest restoration with Koa (Acacia koa) as the primary species of interest. The 12 day field tour circumnavigated the Big Island and went from sea level to almost 9000 ft on Mauna Kea. Dr. Anthony Davis, UNB Alumnus and Professor of Native Plant and Nursery Management at the University of Idaho, was our primary host. The days were filled with tours focusing on industrial management, ecological restoration, conservation, and invasive plant control, with most days ending with a quick visit to the local white sand beach or coral reef for a quick swim or snorkel.
