Master of Environmental Management

If you want an advanced professional degree that will give you the practical skills and experience you need to work as an environmental or natural resource manager, then choose our new Master of Environmental Management program.

Whether you are a recent university graduate or a working professional who wants to upgrade your skills, you will build the tools you need to succeed in your career during this 16-month program.

There is a need for professionals who can approach environmental problems from both biophysical and socioeconomic perspectives. Through a combination of course work, a major project and a practicum (see guidelines), you will gain a theoretical grounding in biophysical and social sciences along with the critical tools for assessment, communication and management. As part of your studies, you will develop a research project tailored to your specific interests that will allow you to use your knowledge and skills to help solve a "real" environmental problem of your choosing.

When you complete your program, you will be well-equipped to succeed in a variety of roles, including leading environmental impact assessments, carrying out certification reviews or managing environmental restoration projects.

Requirements

To apply for this program, you must have an undergraduate degree in science, forestry, environmental studies, social ecology or the equivalent from a recognized university. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply.

This program does not require you to write a thesis or have acceptance from a faculty supervisor.

How to apply

You can begin the application process by contacting a professor in your field of interest who will determine whether your qualifications and research interests match the programs and possible graduate student vacancies currently in the faculty.

Priority is given to students who apply by March 1st. Later applicants will be considered on an available space basis. The MEM program begins in each September, and you have the option of studying full-time or part-time.
