1. What is TME?
The TME program features two major themes of learning: Technology Management and Entrepreneurship. In essence, TME seeks to give students with a technical background the business tools they need to be successful in the real world – either in industry or as entrepreneurs.

For more information, check out About Us.

2. Why TME?

TME equips technical students with business tools for success after they graduate. Additionally, with TME credentials, TME graduates have had access to job interviews and promotions to positions of management that they otherwise would not have had.

For more information, check out About Us and Our Programs.

3. Who was Dr. J. Herbert Smith?
Dr. Smith graduated from UNB’ s Faculty of Engineering in 1932 and subsequently worked for Canada General Electric (CGE). He spent his entire engineering career with CGE, rising to President and Chief Executive Officer in 1957. In 1988, Dr. Smith made an endowment to UNB to fund the TME chair; today, the chair continues to be funded in perpetuity from Dr. Smith.

For more information, check out JHSC History.

4. How do I apply for the Diploma program?
Check out Admission Requirements for details on application and admission.

5. Am I able to take courses without registering for the Diploma?
Yes. TME courses may be taken without registering to the diploma if you meet the stated prerequisites.

Check out Admission Requirements for more information.

6. How much do TME courses cost?
TME students already enrolled in full-time study at UNB are not required to pay additional fees for TME courses. Part-times students pay fees in accordance with the program for which they are registered. Program specific fee schedules for Canadian and International students can be found at Financial Services.

7. What are the course prerequisites?
Typically, a minimum of 80 completed credit hours is required prior to enrolment in TME courses. In special cases, the program chair may give permission to override this requirement.

Mature students who do not meet the 80 credit hour prerequisite can still apply but may be required to submit evidence of suitable educational and work experience background.

8. What is the structure of the Diploma program?
The TME Diploma program consists of three core TME courses and two electives (TME or other approved elective courses). The diploma can be completed concurrently with an undergraduate degree, or students may register only for the diploma.

More information in Our Programs.

9. Do I have to choose one of the electives on the application?
The elective list on the application form indicates already approved and acceptable elective courses. In some cases, students may suggest alternative courses for consideration.  Remember that the electives must complement the core courses and be consistent with the technology management and entrepreneurship theme. All electives must be approved by the program chair and some from the provided list may not be suitable due to repetition elsewhere in a student’s program of study.

More information in Courses @ JHSC.

10. How do I have a course reviewed as a possible elective?
If you wish to have a course reviewed as a potential elective, you must submit a copy of the course syllabus along with a letter outlining the relevance to the TME program to the TME Office.

11. Does my academic advisor need to sign the application?
You should consult with your academic advisor if you intend to share any of the TME courses with your degree program. If you are sharing any courses, your academic advisor must initial approval for each shared course and also sign the front of the application.

12. How long does it take to process my application?
Once a submitted application is approved by the Dr. J. Herbert Smith Centre, it is forwarded to the Registrar’s Office (typically within 24 hours). Students then receive notification from the Registrar’s Office when processing is complete. Depending on the time within the academic year, this may take several weeks.

13. Where is the TME office located?
The Dr. J. Herbert Smith Centre is located directly above the Civil Engineering Office in Old Head Hall:
