The Faculty of Engineering at UNB wants to partner with practicing design engineers to help transform the way engineering design is taught at UNB. This initiative is possible thanks to funding received from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada for the creation of the NSERC-UNB Chair for Collaborative Engineering Design Education. Our goal is to produce engineering graduates who are recognized by employers for their design abilities, provide students with the opportunity to work under the guidance of practicing design engineers, and to be an engine for the local economy by working on industry-sponsored projects.
Description: We are seeking engineers with design-experience to help us co-mentor final-year design projects in our Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs during the academic year 2012-2013.
Duration: Interested individuals will co-mentor with a Faculty member one or more teams on a part-time basis from September to December, 2012 and from January to April, 2013.
Duties: Co-mentors are expected to meet with each team under their responsibility for one hour every week and to provide written feedback on the milestones submitted periodically by the students. Meetings with the students can take place in the evening or weekend at a mutually convenient time and location.
Remuneration: The remuneration for the participating design engineers will be $2500/year per team supervised.
Qualifications: All projects co-mentored by practicing design engineers will be sponsored by a client. We will endeavor to assign the practicing design engineers to projects that match their area of technical expertise. However, it is more the project management and design skills of the mentors that will be of value to the students.
How to apply: Interested individuals should apply by sending a short CV to Dr. Michel Couturier (cout@unb.ca). Applicants should state their field of expertise and the number of projects they wish to co-mentor. Review of applications will begin on August 1, 2012 and will continue until all positions are filled.
