Who is my Advisor, When do I see an Advisor? and Why?
The ECE office staff (D36) can answer general administrative questions; however, you should request an appointment with an Advisor to address academic issues. It is important for students to follow the course matrix, recognizing pre-requisites, and minimum grade requirements. Registration for upcoming Fall/Winter academic terms takes place in the spring and students are encouraged to seek approval from advisors for their course selection to ensure program requirements are being met.
Note: The EE and CMPE programs require a minimum of 160 credit hours. Even though you may have completed all of the program requirements for graduation, you still may find yourself short credit hours. Please see an academic advisor.

What is CSE and HSS?
Complementary Studies Electives (CSE) are courses in your program you are required to take from one of the following faculties: Administration; Anthropology; Classics; Economics; English (non-language); Environmental Studies; Family Violence Issues; Film; Fine Arts; Gender Studies; History; International Development Studies; Media Arts & Culture; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology; Technology, Management & Entrepreneurship; Women’s Studies; Women’s Studies; World Literature & Culture Studies.
HSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) are courses in your program you are required to take from one of the following faculties: Anthropology; Classics; History; Philosophy; Political Science; Sociology.

Is a 'C' required in every course?
A minimum grade of C is required for all courses used for credit towards an engineering degree (including HSS and CSE's).
Can I take an on-line course?
Students who are unable to timetable a course may be eligible with departmental approval to enroll in an on-line version (OALP courses). An application form can be found at the The College of Extended Learning (CEL).
What if I want to do a course somewhere else?
To take a course somewhere else (with course credit) you must first obtain permission from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students who wish to pursue academic study at another institution during intersession/summer or Co-op terms can refer to the UNB Regulations UNB Regulations

Where do I submit and pickup Assignments & Labs?
Unless otherwise specified by your professor, Course Assignment & Lab submissions (wooden boxes) are directly located outside the ECE Department Office (D36) in the main hallway and are clearly labeled for each course. All submissions are due by 4pm daily.

Students are NOT permitted to pickup for friends. This constitute theft and will not be tolerated. Randomly we will ask for ID.

Can I get access to the Lab outside of lab times?
Key requests to labs can be accommodated for most labs. Students are expected to be responsible and to report any unauthorized activity to the ECE Department 453-4561 and/or Security 453-4830. Please check with the ECE Office Staff (D36).
What if I am ill or have to miss time? Or miss an exam?
It is important to inform your course Professor/Lab TA if you are going to be away. Some classes have mandatory attendance. In the case of unexpected emergencies, you can submit acceptable documentation to the Registrar upon your return; often medical documentation is sufficient. Please note: The Registrar states that travel plans are not sufficient reason to defer an examination".
The ECE Department has a Policy on Deferred Examinations as follows:
"University regulations on deferred exams are described in the UNB Calendar under Section B-V.C. Courses offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are scheduled to be written on the fourth day of classes in the following term. There are no exceptions."
