Policy on Fixed Deferred Exam Dates
General university regulations on deferred exams can be found in the university calendar, University-Wide Academic Regulations section III, subsection E.
For all courses offered by the Department of Civil Engineering, deferred exams will be written on one of three predetermined dates, as follows:
- Students deferring an exam in any Civil Engineering course in the fall term will write the deferred exam on the second Saturday after the start of classes in January. (January 12, 2013)
- Students deferring an exam in any Civil Engineering course in the winter term will write the deferred exam on the second Saturday after the start of intersession classes in May. (May 11, 2013
- Students deferring an exam in any Civil Engineering course in the intersession or summer session will write the deferred exam on the second Saturday after the start of classes in September. (September 14, 2013)
Exams will be at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Students who have deferred more than one exam will write the second exam at 2:00 in the afternoon of the same day, with additional exams written in the evenings (7:00 pm) of the following week, beginning on Monday evening and continuing with one exam each evening until all deferred exams are completed. In all cases of multiple deferred exams, the Department shall decide which specific exams are written in which timeslot.
On rare occasions, due to scheduling of multiple deferred exams for other students, it may be necessary for a student to write a deferred exam in a timeslot other than the first one available to them.
If circumstances warrant, students unable to write a deferred exam in one of the assigned time periods may seek a further deferral based on the same documentation requirements as the "University Wide Regulations" cited above. Such documentation will be provided to the Chair of the Department. Granting of a further deferral is determined using the same rules and criteria as for the first deferral and will be written on a date determined by the Department, normally as soon as reasonably possible after the original deferral date.
