Research Interest
Dr, Theodore W. Bremner is Professor Emeritus and Honorary Research Professor with the Civil Engineering Department at the University of New Brunswick. His research areas include the study of concrete in sea water; the microstructure and performance of concrete; the strength and durability of lightweight concrete; alkali-aggregate reactions, the performance of reinforced and prestressed concrete in corrosive environments; the use of high purity lignin as a superplasticizer for concrete; the use of magnetic resonance imaging to study moisture distribution in normal and low density concrete; strain and temperature measurement in concrete structures using distributed fibre optic sensing based on Brillouin scattering; and the study of specified density concrete.
Consulting
Prior to returning to teach at UNB, Dr. Bremner served as a concrete specialist with a cement company and as a structural engineer in Calgary, Alberta where he was a designer of concrete bridges, high rise apartments and office buildings. Currently he provides consulting services to the concrete industry mainly in the areas of marine concrete and lightweight concrete as well as general construction problems and the repair of infrastructure.
