Engineering Open House and Memorial Tree Planting

Fredericton, Sept. 30

As part of the broader UNB Homecoming events, UNB Engineering is hosting an Open House of the Faculty. Come out and see new labs and classrooms, meet students and faculty, and get a demo of our new MakerSpace!

We are also holding a special memorial tree planting outside of the Engineering Faculty to honour three of the four 'founders' of our modern day civil engineering department - Ira Beattie, Bob McLaughlin and Howard McFarlane. The fourth member of this group, Albert Stevens, was honoured with a memorial tree outside of Head Hall in 2015.

We feel it is fitting to have all four trees in this space to pay tribute to each of these inspiring UNB alumni engineers and faculty members who, in 1957, designed and oversaw the construction of the connecting building between the two existing engineering buildings on campus.

  • Saturday, Sept. 30
  • Tree planting: 10:00-11:00
  • Open House tour and reception: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Head Hall lobby, Dineen Drive
  • Cost: Free
