Student Exchange Testimonial
During the summer of 2011 I had the opportunity to study abroad in Bonn, Germany. Looking back on this experience it was one of, if not the best decision, that I have made during my undergrad experience.
Moving to a new country was a bit of a shock at first. New culture, new languages and I knew nothing about any of them! Luckily everyone that I ran into was more than happy to help me out either by explaining certain traditions or practices to even helping me buy my groceries. With the aid of the students and people around me I was quickly able to adapt and make the most of the experience.
While I was in Germany I took advantage of the amazing travel opportunities. You are only a short (a few hours at most) train ride or plane ride away from anywhere in Europe. Not only is everything close, it’s super cheap to get there too. There is so much to see and experience that you simply can’t do it all in one exchange.
Academically, I believe that an exchange is an amazing idea as it exposes you to new forms of learning and courses that you may not be able to take at UNB. Best of all is that when you come back you get credit for the work that you have done abroad and in my case, all of my courses transferred without any problems.
For anyone who is thinking about studying abroad I cannot recommend this enough. The ability to travel to a new country, experience a new culture and way of schooling is invaluable. It not only enhances your university experience but it doesn’t look bad on a resumé either.
