CPS History and Development
The Centre for Property Studies (CPS) is an autonomous, interdisciplinary Centre at the University of New Brunswick that was established with support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in 1997. Our focus originally was on development, dissemination and sharing of knowledge and experience in the area of property including immoveable, moveable and intellectual property.
This focus shifted strongly in response to demand and opportunities to the challenges of land rights and rural development in the developing world. At the same time we expanded to include all aspects of land administration and management leading to sustainable livelihoods and a number of associated fields.
Therefore our original emphasis on capacity building in sustainable livelihoods, land management and rural development has expanded into a much broader program of global engagement and learning.
