Diploma in University Teaching

The Diploma in University Teaching (DUT) helps participating graduate students, faculty members and contract instructors develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to:

• Increase their competence in the teaching-learning process and in instructional design.
• Understand the diversity in students' needs and learning characteristics.
• Understand the characteristics of the teaching-learning environment that promote effective learning.
• Develop attitudes and skills that value ongoing professional development related to teaching.

Goals of the Program

The primary goal of the Diploma in University Teaching is to help participating graduate students, faculty members and contract instructors develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to become better teachers.  In this course we will examine key areas of the teaching profession including: understanding our students, course planning, teaching methods, and assessment of teaching and learning.

Eligibility

The DUT is open to all full and part-time faculty members and contract instructors, and to all registered full and part-time graduate students.  Non-UNB persons wishing to participate in the course will be required to pay $586.00 (based on UNB course fees).  Since enrolment is limited, graduate students, new faculty and contract instructors will be given first preference.
