Data Projectors
The Technical Workshop has standardized specific brands and models of data projectors in order to ensure suitability, serviceability, security, and insurability. In addition, this standardization has enabled the Workshop to stock spare lamps for these models thereby minimizing service interruptions due to lamp failure.
We select our standard models based on features, performance, price, and very importantly, on our ability to provide ongoing support for any particular model. Support considerations include a business relationship with the manufacturer, the ability to order parts and service information, warranty terms, serviceability of the model, and dealer and manufacturer technical support.
Also, having standard models allows us to design effective security measures tailored to the specific projectors. In order to maintain policy coverage for data projectors, the University has made a commitment to its insurance company that all insured data projectors will have effective security measures installed. Please note, this does not apply to projectors under $1000.
The Technical Workshop strongly recommends that all departments consult with us before purchasing a data projector. Through consultation, we can inform you of the advantages of choosing a standard model and can provide quotations and generate purchase requisitions for the selected standard model. As well, we can inform you about the University-mandated requirement to attach security measures to each projector and the costs associated with these measures.
Please note: all projectors to be installed in classrooms must be purchased through the CETL Technical Workshop and must be one of the identified standard models.
Classes depend on these projectors being operational. Employing only standard models ensures that all installed classroom projectors are supported by the Technical Workshop, and that they are properly secured, insured, and inventoried. The Technical Workshop does not provide maintenance, security measures, repairs, or technical support for projectors other than the standard models we identify.
Please contact the Technical Workshop at 447-3407 if you are planning to purchase a digital projector.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning to install a projector there are important issues you need to be aware of. Please see Smart Classroom Design for more information.
