Faculty of Science

My primary focus has been in the deployment of remote GPS sites in the Canadian Arctic. Todd Kelly, BSc in Applied Physics, 1992

Science is a vast, challenging and rewarding field with many opportunities for a fulfilling career. Environmentalists, mathematicians, geologists, physicists, technicians, biologists and doctors all work in the field of science. Career possibilities are rapidly becoming more varied and more popular.

The complex world of the sciences might baffle you at the outset as you plan your path of study—there are 23 different degree program options within the Faculty of Science at UNB. Be assured that our faculty members will work closely with you, providing sound advice so you make the right choices to reach your career goal.

Program Options

In second year, students must select from one of the single-subject options or interdepartmental options listed below.

Single Subject Options

Interdepartmental Options

The interdepartmental programs are based on courses in the four science departments and the mathematics and statistics department to meet the needs of students proceeding into an interdisciplinary area. Students should refer to both departments for counselling. See the Undergraduate Calendar for details on each option.

  • Biology-Chemistry
  • Biology-Mathematics/Statistics
  • Biology-Physics
  • Chemistry-Physics
  • Geology-Economics
  • Geology-Physics
  • Mathematics/Statistics – Economics
  • Mathematics-Physics

Environmental Biology Option

Environmental Biology is an interdisciplinary science because the solutions to environmental problems lie at the intersection of human behaviour, technology and the biology of living organisms. environmental biology students will take courses in chemistry, economics, environmental law, sociology, as well as more traditional biology courses in ecology, conservation biology and ecotoxiocology.

See the Undergraduate Calendar for details.

Environmental Geochemistry Option

This option provides geology students who have an interest in environmental science with a background to pursue careers or graduate studies in environmentally related geoscience fields, especially in areas related to water resources, contamination and remediation.

See the Undergraduate Calendar for details.

General Science Option

The General Science Degree option offers a broader exposure to more sciences and the program can be customized to meet your interests. Honours is not available in General Science but students achieving a high academic performance are awarded Distinction upon graduation.
