Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies
Why Study Recreation and Sports Studies?
The Bachelor of Recreation and Sports Studies (BRSS) program at UNB offers an open curriculum so you can pursue your individual interests. You will receive a solid foundation in theories and applications in the social-psychological aspects of recreation, sport, physical activity and leisure.
Areas of Concentration
BRSS students choose from one of four concentrations at the end of first year, before registering for second year courses:
1. Discipline-based
This concentration provides an opportunity to focus on an area complimentary to recreation and sport studies.
- Example courses: program planning, leadership, assessment and evaluation.
- Requirements: students are required to complete a minor outside of the faculty such as: psychology, environmental studies, fine arts, leadership, or history.
2. Recreation and Sport Management
This concentration is a business focus on recreation and sport studies.
- Example courses: advanced management, financial management, and marketing.
- Requirements: students are required to complete a minor in business + complete a 12ch professional internship.
3. Wellness
This concentration is a focus on health and wellness.
- Example courses: nutrition, health promotion, and exercise physiology.
- Requirements: students are required to complete a 12ch professional internship.
4. Education
This concentration provides a “teachable major in Physical Education”.
- Example courses: anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.
- Requirements: Students are required to complete 7 Biol/Kin courses + 8 activities.
You will receive information about the concentrations in Kin 1001 (Fall term) and in RSS 2213 (Winter term). The Kinesiology Coordinator of Student Support Services (C201, LB Gym) can advise you regarding your concentration.
