BBA Majors and Concentrations

By the end of second year, you must decide whether you want to apply for the Honours BBA or pursue a General BBA. Your academic advisors will help you choose the best options and provide career advice.

The Honours BBA is for students who want to focus intensely on an area within business administration. For example, if you are interested in accounting, the Honours program can help you advance more quickly towards accounting designations such as CA (Chartered Accountant), CGA (Certified General Accountant), and CMA (Certified Management Accountant). You may also complete a minor from another Faculty to complement your program.

The General BBA provides a moderate level of specialization in an area of interest. You may concentrate in area of business administration, with a minor from another Faculty.

BBA Leading to Law Degree

You can apply to UNB Law School after completing the third year of your BBA program. When you successfully complete your first year of Law, you qualify for your BBA, which will enable you to earn a Law degree and a BBA in six years. In order to qualify for the BBA, you must have credit for all of the required courses specified, with the exception of ADM 3123. You must apply to and be accepted by the Faculty of Law.

Work Experience

You can start developing your career potential now by planning to enrol in our co-op or internship programs, by paying attention to the labour market, thinking about the companies you would like to work for, interviewing professionals in your field of interest, and attending career fairs and career development seminars.

  • Co-op program: Our BBA co-op program places over 100 students with more than 60 companies each year, providing well-paid work experience and opening doors to successful careers. The co-op program lets employers and students discover where there is ‘a good fit’. Many companies offer co-op students full-time work, making the transition from university to career seamless and satisfying.
  • Internships: If you are pursuing an honours designation, you can gain firsthand experience by working with a company on a project related to your major. You may choose an internship in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or Marketing. Many interns are hired by their placement company/agency, directly from university at excellent starting salaries.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

These programs are available to fourth year students, and will help give you the edge you need to succeed. You will put into practice all of the theory you have learned, and gain the experience that employers want – before you graduate!

  • Student Investment Fund: If you are interested in a career in finance, consider this option. It is one of only a few programs in North America that allows students to invest real money in bonds, stocks and other securities, and at the same time prepares them for the Chartered Financial Analyst Level One examination. This practical experience is highly valued by employers and offers unsurpassed networking opportunities with the industry. The SIF is a student-managed fund that began with $1 million in 1998 and, through thoughtful investment decision-making, now surpasses $2 million.
  • Export Partnering Program:
    See your export-marketing strategy come to life! Fourth-year BBA students are matched with small- to medium-sized businesses in Atlantic Canada to develop an export-marketing strategy targeted at the New England states. Students will start working with a company in the fall, researching international marketing opportunities and preparing an export market entry plan. In the spring, you will see first-hand how well your plan works by participating in a trade mission with your company. You will gain first-hand knowledge about Canada/US customs, accounting, taxation, and environmental regulations, and be exposed to great networking opportunities.

Certificate Programs

If you are employed in an administrative position or are considering a career in administration or management, our certificate programs can help you advance more quickly. Certificate courses also count as credits towards a BBA degree.
