MBA admission requirements

Statement of purpose: Briefly explain your background, why you want to pursue an MBA, and detail your career goals. Essential information about your qualifications, your preparation and where you see yourself in the future should also be included.

Resume: Normally, two to three years of work experience is preferred. On your resume, include all your part-time and full-time work. 

Three reference letters: One must be academic. MBA Sports and Recreation applicants require two academic references. (Referees submit confidential recommendations electronically.)

Official transcript(s) and grading scale: Official transcript(s) and grading scale(s): A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 out of 4.3 or a B average is required.

Note: International applicants are required to submit a course by course WES ICAP evaluation that includes all prior post-secondary credentials obtained. The WES ICAP evaluation ensures certified expert translation of academic standing and degree credentials and expedites the subsequent review and decision process. The review committee also reserves the right to ask for a WES ICAP evaluation in other cases where such evaluation is needed to accurately assess the applicant's credentials.

Prerequisite course: Successful completion of a university-level microeconomics course is preferred before the program begins but can be completed during the first term.

GMAT/GRE score: A minimum GMAT score of 550 or GMAT Focus/GRE equivalent that is no more than five years old. 

You can request a GMAT waiver if you meet the following criteria:

• an undergraduate CGPA of 3.4 or higher on a scale of 4.3, or
• a Master degree from a reputable university, or
• a professional designation (e.g. CPA, CFA) from a reputable North American body.

and

• three years of work experience (preferably at a middle-to-senior level management position)

A complete online application to the School of Graduate Studies must be submitted before a decision is made on a potential candidate’s eligibility for a GMAT waiver.

English-language score, if applicable: If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate high proficiency in English by providing an official, academic test score.

Application deadline: March 31 for September start and July 15 for January start.

Credit for prior courses: Advanced standing may be given for previous courses taken. For more information contact mbacontact@unb.ca.

Note: Admission to the MBA program is competitive. Meeting all of the requirements does not guarantee admission.

Entrance scholarships

Entrance scholarships of $4,000 each will be granted to MBA applicants based on academic merits. All full-time applicants will be automatically considered for a scholarship when their applications are reviewed for admission. No separate application is required.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. To be considered for an award, the following minimum criteria are required:

• Complete application package must be received by March 31;
• Minimum GMAT score of 600; AND
• Minimum undergraduate CGPA of 3.7/4.3.
