Arts 1000 is a full-year mandatory class for all students in the Arts faculty at UNB Fredericton. Arts 1000 is also called The Development of Western Thought. This course explores the significant concepts that have shaped the development of Western civilization from the time of Ancient Greece to the present day.
There are two 50-minute lectures (one on Tuesdays and one of Thursday; both running from 11:30am until 12:20pm). There is also a mandatory, 50-minute tutorial.
You need to pick four more courses per term. The first term of the academic year is called the Fall term (FA/2012), and the second is called the Winter term (WI/2013). You must choose from the list of acceptable courses in the Fall and Winter Course Timetable.
The course timetable does change at times when new courses are added. However, there are always examples of rules to follow when choosing your courses.
1. Courses must be open to students in the Faculty of Arts.
- No Kinesiology
- No Business Administration
- No Renaissance College
- No English 1103
- ...and so on
2. Courses must have no unfilled prerequisites.
- You must successfully complete SPAN1203 before taking SPAN1204
- You can't take MATH1003 without high school level calculus or MATH0863.
3. Courses must be under the 2500 level.
- No 3000 level courses! No exceptions.
- Courses labeled 2500 and higher contain more advanced material that requires more introductory level studies first.
