Dr Nicholas Hardy

Assistant Professor
B.A., M.A. (Essex University, UK), Postgrad Cert (London Metropolitan University, UK), Ph.D. (Queen's University)

Dr Nick Hardy worked in social research for over six years in London (UK) before returning to academia to undertake his PhD in Social Theory. Nick’s current work focuses upon three areas of social theory: post-structuralism, especially the work of Michel Foucault; neo-Marxism and the later works the philosopher Louis Althusser; and a continuation of his long-standing interest in Critical Realism. Future avenues of research will include examining how post-structuralist accounts of 'nature'/'the environment' can be integrated with the Critical Realist concept of 'recombinant' natural and social relations. Alongside Nick's theoretical work will be a continuation of his research into the social ramifications of nuclear energy, part of which will be a study of the Canadian nuclear industry.
