Maria is currently working for the Department of Justice in Ottawa. Before transferring to the Federal posting, Maria was a lawyer at Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, working in the litigation group of its Ottaw office. After completing her BA at UNB in 2002 in the philosophy and law in society program, Maria went to law school at the University of Victoria. While at law school, Maria competed in the client-counselling competition, placing first in the American Bar Association's North American competition, and second in the international Client-Counselling Competition in Glasgow, Scotland. After law school, Maria moved to Ottaw to serve as a law clerk to Justice Yvon Pinard of the Federal Court. Maria was called to the Bar in 2007 and joined Fraser Milner Casgrain, where she currently practices corporate litigation.
In order to maintain some university movement, Maria coaches the University of Ottawa's client-counselling team and negotiation team in preparation for the American Bar Association competitions.
