Andrew is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
He completed his BA with honors at the University of New Brunswick in 1991, his MA and PhD in Philosophy of Science at the University of Western Ontario in 1997, and was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University in 1998-1999.
His teachings and reserarch deals with the history and philosophy of science. He is the author of Peirce's Scientific Metaphysics: The Philosophy of Chance, Law and Evolution (Vanderbilt University Press, 2002), and his current reserarch on cell biology and evolution has been published in the Journal of the History of Biology, History of Science, Science in Context, Endeavour, History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, and Biology and Philosophy.
He has just begun a term as secretary and treasurer of the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science (CSHPS).
