Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association

Welcome to the APLA web site.

The Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association (APLA) was founded in 1977 to promote the study of languages and linguistics in Eastern Canada and was recognized in 1992 as a national organization by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The Association hosts an annual conference each fall at a centre of higher education in the area . Topics cover all areas of linguistics. In 2015 the conference took place at Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's and in 2016 it was hosted by Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. The site for the 2017 conference will be Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The Association's journal, Linguistica Atlantica, is published annually and can found online at
