Gerard Beirne

BA, BAI (Trinity College Dublin), MFA (Eastern Washington University)

Gerard Beirne is an Irish writer who has lived in Canada since 1997. His main interests are fiction and poetry. He teaches part-time in the English Department at UNB and was appointed as Writer-in-Residence at UNB for 2008/2009. He is a past recipient of The Sunday Tribune/Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award. His novel The Eskimo in the Net (Marion Boyars Publishers, London) was short-listed for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award 2004. His collection of poetry Digging My Own Grave (Dedalus Press) was runner-up in The Patrick Kavanagh Award. His short story Sightings of Bono was adapted for film featuring Bono (U2). His most recent novel Turtle was published by Oberon Press, 2009.
