Heidi Butler

BA (Trent), MA (UNB), PhD (UNB)

Heidi Butler specializes in Canadian literature, particularly Atlantic Canadian fiction. Her academic interests include representations of youth in Canadian fiction, Canadian women’s writing, and feminist theory and criticism. She co-edited a special edition of Studies in Canadian Literature titled “Adolescence in Canadian Literature,” for which she co-authored the introduction. She has also published work in Critique: Studies in Twentieth-Century Fiction. Her next projects include revising her dissertation for publication as a book examining adolescent girl characters in the work of Atlantic Canadian women novelists. She is also beginning a new study of youth in Canadian fiction which suggests that youth reflect and affect contemporary concepts of Canadian national identity.
