Title: Reflecting Spectral

Following in the form of a Bildungsroman, Reflecting Spectral showcases the ideological and psychological shifts of my female protagonist Akúa as she comes to consciousness of her transcultural identity. Written in the realist tradition, this short story cycle follows Akúa as she spends her childhood in Jamaica in the early 1980s, through her migration to Texas in 1985, and her second migration to Canada in 1990. The use of short stories highlights the ways in which each individual experience affects the whole of Akúa’s perspective as she stitches her variegated experiences into a transcultural identity that is uniquely hers.
