Jennifer Houle, MA Creative Writing Graduate 2009, wins an East Coast Literary Award

The Back ChannelsJennifer Houle's poetry book The Back Channels (Signature Editions, 2016) was just awarded the J.M. Abraham Poetry Award as part of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia's East Coast Literary Awards.

The J.M. Abraham Poetry Award is given to the best book of poetry by an Atlantic Canadian. 

The awards were announced on May 31, 2017 in Halifax.

Phillip Crymble, current PhD student, has won The Puritan's Poetry Prize

Current PhD student Phillip Crymble has won The Puritan's Thomas Morton Memorial Prize for Poetry for his poem "Paydays." Judge Jan Zwicky says, "Phillip Crymble has a superb ear. 'Paydays' is a sophisticated piece of linguistic music, rooted in complex elegiac emotion." Read the poem and Zwicky's full comments here.

Charlie Fiset, former PhD Student, is a 2016 Journey Prize finalist!

Congratulations to Charlie — her story "If I Ever See the Sun," published in The Fiddlehead No. 264 (Summer 2015), has been named a finalist for the 2016 Journey Prize! The award will be announced on November 2.

Phillip Crymble, Current PhD Student, Nominated for Two Book Awards

Congratulations to Phillip Crymble, whose book Not Even Laughter (Salmon Poetry, 2015) was nominated for the inagural New Brunsiwck Book Award for Poetry and the J.M. Abraham Award, the Poetry Book category of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia's East Coast Literary Awards.

Emily Bossé, MA Creative Writing Graduate 2014, on Journey Prize Shortlist!

Emily BosséCongratulations to Emily Bossé on being one of three shortlisted finalists for The Writers' Trust/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize for her story "Last Animal Standing on Gentleman's Farm" first published in The Fiddlehead no. 258 (Winter 2014). The story is one of twelve that will be published in the Journey Prize Anthology. The anthology is set to be published by McClelland & Stewart on October 6. The winner will be announced by The Writers' Trust of Canada on November 3.

February 6, 2015 - Congratulations to Rebecca Salazar who has won The Malahat Review's 2015 Open Season poetry award for her poem "Synaesthesia." Judge Jan Conn called it "a striking lyrical poem . . . that shook me awake."

January 27, 2015 - Charmaine Cadeau (MA Creative Writing, 2003) has won the 2014 Relit Award for Poetry. The Relit Awards recognize the best of independent Canadian Publishing. Charmaine has won for her poetry collection Placeholder (Brick Books, 2013).
