Accolades

Significant Recent Accomplishments by Faculty and Contract Academic Instructors

2011 - Professor Diana Austin was the recipient of a 3M National Teaching Fellowship.

2010 - Professor Diana Austin won the 2010 AAU Distinguished Teaching Award.

2010 - Professor Roger Ploude was the recipient of the UNB Distinguished Service Award.

2010 - James Langer, MA 2006, current PhD candidate and Contract Academic Instructor, won the 2010 Gerald Lampert Award (Awarded by the League of Canadian Poets for the best first book of poetry published by a Canadian in the preceding year). James's winning book was Gun Dogs.

2008 - Professor Mark Jarman won the Jack Hodgins Founder's Award for Fiction, Malahat Review (best short story published over the preceding year in the Malahat.)

2008 - Professor Ross Leckie won a Canada-US Fulbright Fellowship (winter term) which he held at the University of Arizona.

2007 - Professor Wendy Robbins won the Governor-General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case.

2006 - Professor Gwen Davies was awarded an honorary doctorate (DCL) from the University of King's College, Halifax.

2004 - Professor Gwen Davies (then Dean of Graduate Studies, now Professor and Dean Emerita) was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

2002 - Tammy Armstrong, PhD candidate and current Contract Academic Instructor, was shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for Poetry for her collection Bogman's Music. Tammy was the youngest poet ever short-listed for the Governor General's Award. (Tammy is now a doctoral student at UNB, although at the time of the award she wasn't: she began in 2008.)

2001 - Professor Mark Jarman won the Gold National Magazine Award for his essay "Bear on a Chain."
