We all have a role to play when it comes to ending intimate partner violence. The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC) is pleased to invite YOU to the National Research Day 2010 entitled Engaging our Communities: Working Together to End Intimate Partner Violence. The term “intimate partner violence” (IPV) describes physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same-sex couples and does not require sexual intimacy. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of engaging our communities in working together to end IPV. Focusing on IPV will give us an opportunity to reflect on practices, research, and prevention strategies.
We would like to invite community organizations, government departments and academics from across Canada and elsewhere to share their programs and innovative research to prevent and intervene effectively on issues of IPV and violence against women. This national research day is an opportunity to examine intervention programs and service delivery within diverse contexts, social policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities of public safety, health care and justice systems toward victims and abusers. We invite proposals in English or French (or both), on the many dimensions of IPV. Presenters will be grouped according to themes.
This national research day is organized by MMFC, in partnership with the Canadian Alliance of Research Centres on Violence and the Canadian observatory on the justice system’s response to intimate partner violence.
Please forward all submissions by June 30 2010 to Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre. Any questions should be directed by email or by phone at 506-453-3595.
