Halpern

W. C. Desmond Pacey Memorial Lecture

The 2012-2013 Lecture was held at UNB Fredericton on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.  Juggling Work & Family: What Women Leaders Can Teach Us was be presented by Dr. Diane F. Halpern, the McElwee Family Professor of Psychology & Roberts Fellow, Claremont McKenna College, and past-president of the American Psychological Association.

Hosted by the faculty of arts on both UNB campuses, the W.C. Desmond Pacey Memorial Lecture is presented by leading figures in humanities and social sciences.  It was established in 1981 to honour the late Desmond Pacey, a distinguished UNB professor and administrator who died in 1975.

Linda McQuaig


 

W. Stewart MacNutt Memorial Lecture

Journalist and best-selling author, Linda McQuaig gave the annual lecture entitled, 'The Trouble with Billionaires: How Extreme Inequality Thwarts the Common Good' on November 28, 2012 at UNB Fredericton.  Awarded the National Newspaper Award (1989) and the Atkinson Fellowship for Journalism in Public Policy (1991), McQuaig has authored nine books on politics and economics, challenging Canada's departure from universal social program issues toward the American means-based programs.

The annual W. Stewart MacNutt Memorial Lecture honours the late historian, professor and humanitarian for his many contributions to UNB and to the development of Atlantic Canadian history as a field of study.
