Professor Whitney is a specialist in modern Caribbean and Latin American history, with a specialty in Cuban history. In addition to numerous articles in scholarly journals and book chapters, he has written two books: State and Revolution in Cuba: Mass Mobilization and Political Change, 1920-1940 (2001) and co-author of Subjects or Citizens: British Caribbean Workers in Cuba, 1900-1960 (2013) with Professor Graciella Chailloux Laffita from the University of Havana.
