The exchange program lets you study abroad for one or two terms at one of UNB's partner institutions. We have partners worldwide, and there are options for students of most degrees to do an exchange. Please note that some of our exchanges are specific to certain departments.
Where can you go? Take a look at our destinations!
There are two application deadlines each year: Dec 1st and April 1st. Students who apply by the first deadline are given priority in terms of location. The second deadline will consider applicants for the remaining spaces at our partners.
To get started, please view the application instructions.
Language of Instruction
Most, but not all of our partner institutions offer course work in English. There are also opportunities to study and be immersed in a foreign language. Some of our partners provide free introductory courses to help you become familiar with the host country's national language. When you research the partners for a good match for your exchange term, it is important that you find out whether a partner university meets your academic needs and offer courses in English or in a language with which you are familiar.
With the approval of your academic advisor, the university courses that you take at the host institution can count towards your UNB degree and are covered through your UNB tuition. Many of the courses are different from those offered at UNB , so this is an opportunity for you to take courses that reflect your academic interest.
Planning your Term Abroad
All accomodation and travel arrangements are the student's responsibility. The Student Abroad Program offers significant support to participants prior to leaving Canada to ensure that you are well-prepared. With mandatory pre-departure workshops and other preparations we help to make sure that as much as possible is organized before you leave.
Studying abroad on exchange will cost a bit more than staying in New Brunswick, but many places are surprisingly inexpensive. Please visit our Financial Resource page to see a cost comparison. However, as an exchange student you will be able to use any scholarships, bursaries and student loan funding that you would normally have as a UNB student. You may also be eligible for a Travel Bursary/Award which will help your time abroad as affordable as possible. Furthermore, there are numerous external scholarships/awards available.
