Resting Deeply (Restorative Yoga)
May 19, 2013 2:00PM to May 19, 2013 4:30PM
The Richard J. CURRIE CENTER (2-14 Hatheway Family Fitness Studio)
Restorative yoga is designed to sooth your body, breath and thinking mind. Moving slowly, stopping frequently and being mindful of your breath, its aim is to gently stimulate and allow rest to happen. Rest is different than sleep. Rest provides your body and opportunity to recharge, renew and heal itself. Restorative postures are used to relieve stress, fatigue and illness. We all need a restorative practice from time to time, it is a wonderful compliment to an active yoga practice. Restorative practice could be considered the 'icing on the cake' after a competition for active athletes. This is a quiet class, so direction of meditative work is self-directed. Beginners and experienced yoga participants are all welcome.

Public Lecture Anouncemment
Jun 3, 2013 2:30PM to Jun 3, 2013 3:30PM
Head Hall ((ADI Studio - Room HC25))
The invited lecture on "How about the Quality of Big (geo)Data?" will be given by Dr. Michael F. Goodchild, Emeritus Professor of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Big Data phenomenon offers great potential for analysis, gathering of intelligence, and prediction. Its implications for science are more nuanced, however.
In this presentation I compare Big Data with the traditional data sources used by science, and discuss the ways in which Big Data may be useful. Big Data can also be hardened by subjecting it to quality-control procedures. I review three possible approaches to hardening in the context of geographic information, with particular emphasis on volunteered geographic information.
Faculty of Computer Science: Seminar Series
Jun 3, 2013 3:30PM to Jun 3, 2013 4:30PM
Gillin Hall (540 Windsor St.) (GC127)
Please join the faculty of computer science as we present the following installment of our weekly seminar series: Title: Real-Time Simulation of Camera Errors and Their Effect on Some Basic Robotic Vision Algorithms Presenter: Jessica Millberg Research Associate, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences
This talk will take place on Monday, June 3, at 3:30 p.m. in Gillin Hall (540 Windsor St.) Room GC127. A detailed abstract can be found below, or by visiting: cs.unb.ca/seminarseries All are welcome!! Modern robots, especially service robots, do no longer operate in well defined environments like factories or highrack warehouses. They rather work under every day conditions, where they need to build maps, navigate or identify objects. For these tasks optical cameras play an important role. The video streams which the cameras provide are examined with computer vision algorithms and the results of these vision algorithms steer the behavior of the robot. Technical influences such as camera errors result in a quality loss on the images and therefore lead to a different robot behavior. For this reason it can be valuable to take camera errors into account during the simulation of a robotic system. We analysed the performance of some basic algorithms for robotic vision when adding modifications to images due to camera errors. Camera errors we examined are vignetting, chromatic aberration and thermal CCD noise.

You do not need to have any prior yoga experience to attend, only a willingness to explore and experience.
Eat a light lunch and wear comfortable clothing.
