Author and raconteur Douglas Gibson will present GREAT SCOTS: Canadian Fiction writers with Links to Scotland, from 1867 to Today.

Douglas Gibson is an editor, publisher, writer and raconteur. He was born (Kilmarnock, Scotland on Dec. 4, 1943) and raised in Scotland, where he earned an MA at the University of St. Andrews. Upon completion of an MA at Yale University, he arrived in Canada in 1967; he continues to reside in Toronto. He has built an impressive career in Canada as one of the nation's best-known and respected editors and publishers.  He became President and Publisher of M&S in 2000, when the company was sold, and in 2004, he reverted to his exclusive role as Publisher of Douglas Gibson Books. He retired from M&S in 2008, although he continues to shepherd some of his authors through the publishing system, so that their books, such as Alice Munro’s Too Much Happiness (2009), emerge under his imprint. His authors have won every major Canadian book prize, most recently when Terry Fallis’s novel The Best Laid Plans won the 2011 CBC Canada Reads competition.

The Lorenzo Reading Series acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, The League of Canadian Poets, UNB Saint John, UNB Saint John Bookstore, and its private reading sponsors.
