The ‘Spend Money on Living’ mass media campaign began in February 2005 and concluded in December. Targeting high school students in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, the campaign promotes Health Canada’s ‘Quit 4 Life’ smoking cessation program. The colourful, punchy advertisements encourage teenaged smokers to participate in Quit 4 Life. By listing participating schools on the Spend Money on Living web site: www.spendmoneyonliving.com , the campaign also persuades more high schools to be involved. Television advertisements will reach the target audience by airing during strategic times on Global. The campaign also includes radio advertisements, bus shelter billboards, internet advertisements and posters. The advertisements ran throughout the remainder of 2005, and the effectiveness of mass media campaign will be evaluated and reported on by CRISP in 2006.
An advisory committee comprised of representatives of the New Brunswick Anti-Tobacco Coalition, the New Brunswick Advisory Council on Youth and the Prince Edward Island Tobacco Reduction Alliance is informing decisions regarding the creative content and the message of the mass media campaign.
