Biography

Elizabeth Costa is a full-time doctoral student in the UNB Faculty of Education. She attained a BA in History and Psychology, and a B.Ed. in secondary education from Mount Allison University. As well, she holds an M.Ed. from the University of Prince Edward Island. Her master's thesis examined the implementation of split-grade classes on Prince Edward Island and investigated the potential benefits of adopting a multi-age philosophy within these contexts.

Elizabeth has taught grades 1-9 in the public education system and has designed and taught a university course on Teaching within a Multi-age Classroom. She also facilitates professional courses with teachers on Multiple Intelligences and Educational Leadership. She presents to professional audiences on other diverse topics including educational assessment and school development.

The purpose of her current study is to determine whether the implementation of multi-age advisory groups in intermediate schools enhances adolescent engagement in school.
