| Biography |
|
Richard is an international student from Hong Kong studying M.Sc.E.(GIS) at the University of New Brunswick. His research focus is on enhancing spatial data visualization by integrating horizontal perspective images with Geographic Information System (GIS). The research involves techniques in GIS, photogrammetry, image processing and computer graphics.
Since graduation from his first degree (B.Sc.) in the University of Hong Kong, Richard had worked for various companies including quantity surveying consultant, real estate developer and building contractors for several years and obtained his professional associate with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 1990. Afterwards, he pursued his Master Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Hong Kong in 1996 and a post-graduate diploma in Geo-information System from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2000.
Subsequently, he joined a GIS consultant as project manager working on several government projects. One of them was to establish a spatial database for road inventory for the Highways Department of Hong Kong to assist the road maintenance works. Before coming to Canada, Richard was a project manager of a software development company that developed a web-based fleet management system using web-based GIS and Global Positioning System (GPS).
He has been working with CRISP as a part-time research assistant since 2001. His experience and knowledge on GIS and programming help the development of the GIS enhanced statistical tools as well as the design and generation of the data to be used with the tools.
