The ANPR is a collaboration of research centres across Atlantic Canada that have joined forces to develop and conduct research to help create healthy social and physical environments for people who live in the region. While it is well known that the places where we live, work and play, have a strong influence on health, what is less well understood is how to modify these environments to improve health. ANPR intends to develop diagnostic tools for assessing the health of schools, communities and workplaces, and to conduct research into programs and policies in these environments that are most effective in improving health outcomes.
ANPR is a six-year, $1.2 million project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research under the Institute of Population and Public Health and hosted by AHPRC at Dalhousie University. The core partners and areas of research are:
- Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre at Dalhousie University(Communities & Health; Public Health)
- PEI Health Research Institute at the University of Prince Edward Island (Healthy Schools)
- Safety Net Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Workplace health)
- Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy at the University of New Brunswick (Data Development)
